The European Year of Volunteering 2011 Tent opened its doors in WarsawThe European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV2011) tour arrived in Poland and put up its tent in front of the great Palace of Culture at the Defilad Square in Warsaw. The Polish EYV2011 Tour Stop was inaugurated on 1 September 2011 with the presence of important national officials. Mr Jarosław Duda, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Ms Irena Wóycicka from the EU Presidency Office in Poland, Ms Ewa Synowiec, the Head of EC Representation in Poland, all supported the presence of the EYV2011 highlighting the benefits of volunteering.
The first day of the EYV2011 Polish Tour Stop was dedicated to the integration of disabled people. Twelve organizations presented their activities and shared experiences. The Institute of Psychology and Neurology of Warsaw, The Radwanek Theatre Company from the Anna Dymna Foundation, The Polish Association for Deaf People, Synapsis Foundation, The Foundation for the Development of the Education System, The British Council and EURODESK held interactive workshops and offered presentations on various volunteering initiatives at a national level. Fourteen organisations gave out information at the stands and encouraged participation with fun activities, such as drawing workshops, quizzes, competitions, dances and songs, videos and presentations. The European wheel of Fortune performed by the European Commission Representation attracted a lot of people increasing their knowledge about Europe. |
