Valores de futuro
‘Valores de Futuro’ (Future Values) is a project about the role of money and values in our lives. It aims to promote financial and citizenship education from a young age.
Objective
BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) created in 2009 its Global Financial Education Plan and Valores de Futuro as one of its most emblematic programs. P.A.U. Education’s goal was to implement this plan at a classroom level.
The solution
P.A.U. Education has created ‘Valores de Futuro’, a project developed in Spain and Portugal that aims to help children and teachers reflect critically about the value of money in our lives and about the individual and social values that condition its use, such as prudence, effort, responsibility and solidarity.
We have used a comprehensive and holistic approach to teach financial education, implementing participatory workshops, promoting debate in the classroom and training teachers. The “friendly teachers” network gathers more than 240 teachers who reflect on financial education and the program. The program’s educational monitors provide schools with on-line and telephone support throughout the entire school year.
We have also created partnerships with educational authorities and with the educational authorities of all of the Consejerías in Spain, as well as with educational authorities in Portugal. We have created free quality educational materials to be used as pedagogical tools in classrooms: teachers guide and online resources including films, documents, etc.
To offer the project a global angle, we have created a Global challenge, where each participating class in ‘Valores de Futuro’ can subscribe and share with rest of the community the work they have done and how they have debated and learned about money and values in their lives. All the materials are gathered on the project’s website.
