European Year of Volunteering 2011

European Year of Volunteering 2011

The European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV 2011) is a project created by the European Commission (DG Communication) and implemented by P.A.U. Education in 27 EU member states.

Theme
Values and human rights
Target group
Institutions and Organizations, Children and youth
Client
European Commission

Objective

The creation of a communication strategy for the EYV 2011 had as purpose working across Europe, by promoting the volunteering values.

The solution

P.A.U. Education’s solution for the EYV2011 consists of a multilingual communication campaign conceived as a tour with 27 stops in all Member States. The events succeed one another and have the same format, applied to the national characteristics. The idea of the “tour” consists of a truck that travels throughout Europe carrying with it the volunteering spirit.

We have created special furniture for the event (with the help of our partner, Iventions). The visual identity of the project is completed by inspiring printed material (flyers, leaflets, posters, banners, stickers) translated in national languages.

The main challenge of the EYV 2011 campaign is to cooperate with various stakeholders (state representatives, EC representatives, local associations and organisations) into giving the campaign a similar voice in all 27 Member States.

Details

Each month, the caravan arrives in at least two European capitals celebrating and encouraging the commitment of volunteers through the dissemination of their stories and experiences. Conferences, workshops and exhibitions on volunteering have been coordinated in all the Member States in order to promote the EYV 2011 campaign.

Every Tour Stop lasts between 2 and 15 days, is organised by one of our multilingual coordinators and enables organisations and volunteers to meet, get to know each other’s work and debate key questions for the future of volunteering. The national Tour Stops are composed of workshops, conferences and exhibitions, among other activities. They are organised in close cooperation with EC representatives and with the National Authorities.

The communication campaign also includes the creation and content management of a multilingual website in all of the EU languages. We have a team of 27 Relay Reporters travelling from country to country to take notes about volunteering activities. Their video and photo testimonials here.

Impact

“Deep within all of us lies the ability to step up and care for those in need. Volunteering strengthens our core European values: solidarity and social cohesion. As we launch the European Year of Volunteering, I want to rally support for people who make a difference. Now is the time for us to share and to give something back, for us to focus on helping the helpers!”
